Desierto de Merzouga

Desierto de Merzouga

Day 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Departure in the morning from Marrakech, from your riad / hotel, direction to the Gorges of Dades, through what is known as ‘The route of the thousand kasbahs’. On the way we will cross the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi N’Tichka pass, the highest point in the country (2260m), opening our way among numerous Berber nomadic peoples that inhabit the mountains.
This spectacular landscape will take us to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, famous for being the scene of more than twenty films, such as ‘Babel’, ‘Obelix’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ …
Free visit of this impressive fortified village, where you can wander around contemplating the many craft shops (painting with spices, jewelry, carpets) until you reach the barn that crowns the kasbah.
We will continue via Ouarzazate crossing the Valley of Roses, where every year in the month of May the celebration of the Roses is celebrated. We will enter the Valley of Dades, valley that houses the maximum concentration of kasbahs. We will cross its winding road, contemplating the varied and peculiar reddish landscape of the Atlas mountains.
Accommodation in the Dades Valley and dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)

Breakfast at the hotel. We head to the Gorges of Todra, north of Tinghir, where you can take a pleasant walk between its imposing canyon walls of more than 200 meters altitude to the source of the Todra River.
Continue to the desert through the palm grove of Tafilalet that leads us to the town of Erfoud, ancient door of the desert, today famous for working with fossils that are extracted in this region.
You can receive, if you wish, a guided tour of the fossil cooperative to discover the secrets of the stone treaty, from extraction to obtaining the product.
At this point, we will leave behind the asphalt to take the dirt track along the 50 km that will lead us to our final destination: the dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will go through the tracks that everyone knows as the Paris-Dakar Rally.
Upon arrival at the hotel in the village of Merzouga, our guide will wait for us with the camels to depart on an excursion (about an hour and a half). Here we will be participants of the immensity that the desert offers with a sea of dunes, until arriving at the heart of the desert to contemplate the beautiful sunset.
Sheltered by the Great Dune, and enjoying the music of the drums, dinner and Moroccan tea, you can contemplate the immense sky of stars and sleep in nomadic tents.
